This gorgeous maxi skirt smashes three trends in one: maxis, florals and red are currently all big news. I love the way it’s more of a shorter midi length at the front. Does this make it a mixi?? I got it from ASOS but I also love this skirt at M&S and this at Next.

And in case you were wondering the Japanese on the t shirt means ‘delicate’!

No, you’re not seeing things, I’m actually wearing a skirt. I’m loving this as an alternative to jeans this time of year and it gives a new lease of life to my old tops. There are loads around but I particularly like this in distressed denim from Zara. Look at that asymmetric, raw hem. Lush.

Yet again life has got in the way of the blog. When is it ever not busy??? These pictures were taken weeks ago and I thought I wouldn’t be able to use them but the top is actually still in stock at Next.  There’s no getting away from statement sleeves at the moment and I think they make an everyday jeans and trainers type outfit a lot more interesting.  There is, however, a downside in that they can get in the way if you’re doing a bit of housework or cooking. My solution? Put your feet up and deliveroo (is that a verb).

I also want to point out the necklace which I think looks really high end but is, in fact, from H&M.  And the belt was my Mother’s Day present to myself (thanks kids). Not cheap, but I’ve already worn it so much that cost-per-wear it’s a bargain.

This jacket is from Next. I know, right? It was £78 and I love it. It’s not real leather but who cares when it’s covered in such beautiful embroidery?

Muttonblog has had a bit of a break but I’m back in time for Christmas and looking forward to 2017. It’s got to be better than 2016, right? Anyway, the tagline now needs to be updated so maybe I should change it from:

 Almost 50  to Embracing 50

Nest Almost Empty to Nest Was Empty But Is Now Full Again

Never Giving Up – I reckon that can stay the same.

And what better way to restart the blog than with this coat from good old Marks & Spencer. It brilliantly combines three current trends: velvet, burgundy and nightwear as daywear. Some of the reviews on the M&S website aren’t great because of the whole looking like you’re wearing a dressing gown outside thing but if you want to be stylish and stand out from the crowd I think this look really works.

Wandering down Carnaby Street a few weeks ago I spotted this stunning coat in the window of Supertrash. I tried it on and realised it would be extremely foolish not to buy it. Not only is it super warm but the colour is perfect for brightening up any outfit on a drab autumnal day. It was my first visit to Supertrash but I’ve now added it to my list of go-to shops in the West End, obvs.

Sadly the heatwave seems to be over but it gave me a chance to wear my new jeans from the Zara sale. Planning ahead, they’ll look great with ankle boots and a sweater in the autumn, but for a cooler summer day I love them with this vest from the sale rail in New Look and this beautiful bright Zara scarf. The espadrilles, which are having a huge moment, weren’t in the sale but at only £9.99 they were a definite bargain.

The second of my new jackets for summer is this lightweight khaki utility style jacket from Zara.  So on trend this season and I think the khaki works really well with white jeans.  The jeans are from Gap and had massive turn ups when I bought them but I had them shortened to this ankle grazing length which is far more flattering.

Isn’t there usually a heatwave in May?  I’ve just put the heating back on and tomorrow is 1st June! This year spring has been much chillier but my latest investment from Zara, a kimono style chunky knit, has been perfect for when the sun refuses to come out. And the cat’s eye sunglasses from Le Specs are perfect when the sun eventually shines.

Marks and Spencer is having a bit of a moment and is definitely worth a browse on the high street or online. The beauty department is like a mini Space NK, stocking brands such as Nuxe and Glamglow, and the new collaboration with Lulu Kennedy for the Indigo collection has some really great, inexpensive pieces for summer. It was a tough decision because I wanted so much of it but I decided on the embroidered gypsy blouse and these really cute and colourful bracelets.
